FAQ

Q: I have plugged in my monitors but I don't have any display on any of my monitors, what should I do?
A:  Although Windows has SMI InstantView Drivers natively installed in the Operating system they may need updating. When you plug in a Silicon Motion product and get no display then always update to the Latest Divers Here  first. In 99% of cases, once these are updated your displays will work. If you are a MacOS user then refer to the section of the User Manual that explains how to install the SMI InstantView software. The SMI InstantView software has to be running on MacOS for this product to work. If these steps do not solve your problem then please contact Comsol support on Live Chat or here and one of our team will give you further assistance

Q: I've been using the adapter for a few hours and it feels quite hot to touch, is that normal?
A:  This is completely normal, there is a lot going on inside your product with several Integrated Chipsets providing displays, data and power to your laptop. Please always ensure your adapter is positioned in a well ventilated area and not left on fabric like a bedding or a lounge for extended periods of time to help keep your product cooler

Q: I only have one extra monitor, will this product work for me?
A:  Absolutely The CMSM02 has much more to offer than just displays, and it gives you future proofing for if you ever upscale your workstation to more monitors

Q:  I have a Mac, will this work for me?
A:  Yes, this Docking Station works on a Silicon Motion chipset making it a Universal multiple monitor dock for Windows & Mac. On MacOS systems you will have to install the SMI InstantView software to display multiple monitors

Q:  The dock is connected but is unresponsive, what should i do?
A:  Sometimes after a longer period of inactivity the sleep function may not wake up in normal way. In this case, or if the dock becomes unresponsive, first try unplugging and re plugging the USB-C connection, if this fails, disconnect the dock from the power and re boot your system, if you are still having problems please contact Comsol support

Q: I plugged in my dock but I get the same image on all of my screens. How do I get different images on each screen?
A:  Right click the mouse on your desktop and select “Display Settings” In this App, scroll down to find the “Multiple Displays” dropdown menu and select the “Extend desktop to this display” option. This app is where you can also select your desired resolution of your display and in the "Advanced Display Settings” you can also select your desired screen refresh rate

Q: I don't have a USB-C port on my laptop, can I use a USB-A to USB-C Adapter with the CMSM02?
A:  Yes, we have included an adapter with this product for that reason. If your laptop has a USB-A 3.0 5Gbps ports (usually blue inside the port) then plug the CMSM02 USB-C male in to the USB-A to USB-C adapter. Please not that if you choose this method that the USB-C Power Pass Through port on the CMSM02 is not supported
